Gayfield Square

Exit Music was Ian Rankin's farewell novel to Detective Inspector Rebus.  In the 17th novel it's Rebus's last week with Police Scotland before his retirement. I've made my way through this series of novels during the two years of Covid. Rankin pulled off a zinger for this 'finale'.  So I thought I'd pay homage to the maverick character and on my run this morning took in Gayfield Square where Rebus was based!

The Gayfield Estate was owned by James Jollie who fued the land from 1783.  Building began on either side of Gayfield House and established the Square which was the heart of the estate.
