METEOR CRATER

This is Meteor Crater near Winslow, Arizona.  About 50,000 years ago a meteor impacted this area and left a huge depression in the ground. It is .737 miles in diameter (1.186km) and is 560 feet deep (170m). The meteor that impacted at nearly 30,000mph was mostly vaporized on detonation that was the equivalent of 10 megatons of TNT.

The meteor was calculated to be approximately 160 feet in diameter (50m).

Now, that's a pretty BIG hole for a Tiny Tuesday, right? I call your attention to the human standing on the rim at the top left of the photo. That will give you some idea of the scale. The human, part of a film crew, is the Tiny Tuesday exhibit.
