(039) Cramond Island

Today I finally got round to visiting Cramond Island, which sits in the Firth of Forth near Edinburgh. The island can be reached at low tide on foot by means of a concrete causeway. The island was used for wartime defence and along with the distinctive row of concrete pyramids, designed to prevent boats from passing, there are various concrete buildings dotted around the island. The main picture was taken on the way to the shore when the tide was at its lowest point. The first extra was taken on the way out when the water had only just dropped below the level of the causeway. The second extra is a telephoto shot of Inchmickery island with the town of Burntisland visible beyond. The third extra is a view from one of the wartime buildings, looking back along the causeway towards the shore at Cramond.
