Anatole's blips

Albert Bridge

My favourite London bridge. One of the most elegant Victorian structures that spans our splendid river, it suffered similar initial problems to the infamous swinging Millennium bridge by St.Pauls.

Erected shortly before Joseph Bazalgette built the new embankments, he added a bit of extra strengthening. It may not have needed the work, but it stopped the swaying. After being hit by various boats in the intervening time the GLC propped it up in the middle with an extra pier in the 70's.
