New and Old

I've been storm bound at the desk today. There are jobs to get on with but they are high up and remote. This is the only photo today; two hand held computers (controllers) which are used talk to theodolites or pole mounted GPS units. They each have, mobile data sim slots, wifi,, bluetooth and long wave radio to communicate with the kit. They are separated by 10 years of development. The TSC7 is on the left. While its superior number crunching, graphics, memory are undeniable it is much heavier, has 4 hour battery life forcing mid shift battery swaps and has a touch screen response which IMO is inferior to the old TSC3 unit. The newer measurement kit cannot be made to talk to the 3 so its obsolescence is nigh. For now it is still my go to device if I have a big day against the clock and looming night fall. If surveying a mountainside was a race no one would use the new version.
