On Our Way To The Pieperrace

We set sail with our clipper Hoge Wier (build in 1899) from Muiden to Volendam to take part at the 29th edition of the Pieperrace. This is a race for traditional dutch sailing vessels, like tjalken, clippers, lemsteraken, skutsjes, botters. These are all traditional flat bottomed ships for transporting cargo or for fishing at the former Zuiderzee, now known as the IJsselmeer. Some of them are more than 100 years old.
On our way we saw Friese Praam, originally used by the Frisian farmers for transporting cattle, hay, etc from one meadow to another.
