A Graveyard View

Visiting graveyards is not a particular hobby of mine, especially since I am not destined to lie in any of them; I expect my charcoaled remains to fertilise the roses up at Mortonhall Crematorium.

Nevertheless there are some cemeteries that invite an inspection because of their tranquil setting. I'm thinking of island ones in Orkney and Shetland which lie beside the shore with a windswept outlook over the sea, or country ones nestling amongst green fields, shaded by old trees such as the tiny one at Cleish wherein lies the former incumbent of the position of wife to His Lordship.

This one in the village of Aberlady is a mix of the two. Although the attached church lies on the busy road linking Edinburgh to NorthBerwick, the graveyard is tucked in at the back and over the wall from Aberlady Bay with an open outlook to Gullane in the distance.

The blue skies and summery puff ball clouds belie the temperature of the air. There was no bursting of buds on the trees either, they are astute in their reticence of flaunting their tender leaves to the icy blast.

Regardless of my views on the policies of Lady Thatcher, I find it disrespectful, unseemly and completely inappropriate behaviour for people to be celebrating her death in public.
It does not reflect well on them.
