Demonstration

Just in case you think that life in Germany is all Schnitzel & Pils, this was a demo in Wiesbaden today against "das Kinderförderungsgesetz" or the childcare funding law. Basically the Government are looking at ways to cut the cost of welfare and this particular law will be either brilliant (the Government view) or seriously and adversely affect a large group of people who can't afford it (insofar as I understand it). It smacks of the sort of policy beloved by a recently departed politician.

I'm pretty sure this Demo totally ballsed up the traffic in the centre of town. I was going for a hair cut and didn't want to turn up all sweaty after walking there, so I took the bus. Big mistake. It took 25 minutes to go about a mile and a half.

I'm faster on foot. So I got out and walked. It was interesting to see how many cars had just one passenger. I'd guess it was over 90%.

And so, The Song In German. Yesterday you got "I Can't Give You Anything But My Love" and today's is a wee bit different :-

Draußen ist es kalt
Die Farbe blättert von meinen Wänden ab
Draußen ist ein Mann
In einem langen, grauen Mantel, er raucht eine Zigarette
