Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

Stop!

Great sand dunes stretch south from Newburgh on Ythan for 13 miles, all the way to the City of Aberdeen. The dune system is of great scientific interest in that it is highly mobile with the sand gradually moving northwards along the coast. Reflecting the importance of the area part was, until recently, designated as a Site of Special Interest (SSSI), the designation reserved for the nations's very best wildlife and geological sites. Sadly that didn't prevent Donald Trump from purchasing the land and somehow managing to get planning permission to turn it into yet another golf course.

The Donald is now fighting a bitter battle to prevent sand from blowing onto his greens by attempting to consolidate the dunes with sand fences and by planting marram grass. Methinks that he hasn't got a cat in hell's chance of long term success.

The enormity of The Donald's task and the beauty of the sand will best appreciated with a closer look.
