The Roof Valley Junction.

A detail of the ceiling in our home.

The structure looks substantial however the repairs to the cracked plaster finishes tell a different story.

Much of the corner is a plaster screen applied to a rather large space within which is a timber column.

The column is supported by a cast iron column which also supports the balcony.

The cracks confirm that both the cast iron column and the timber column sank into the ground, by no more than about 10mm.

The repairs to the plaster confirm that there is no more movement. Perhaps we should now paint over the white patches.
