Crazy About Birds

This Guy Again

I was gazing out the kitchen window while eating an orange and I noticed a tufted titmouse, and then a couple of white-throated sparrows, and finally a dark-eyed junco on the trunk of the small walnut (I think) tree behind the house. I figured they were investigating what I knew were the holes made by the yellow-bellied sapsucker. And then suddenly, there he was! The hole maker himself. You can see the row of holes in this shot. He gets sap out of them, as well as any small insects that have gotten trapped in there. And the songbirds also go for the insects that they can find in the holes that the sapsucker as made.
