Underbelly

I took a bit of a risk today and walked out onto the ice. By sticking to the bits where there was a thin layer of crunchy snow I managed not to slip. Doing so gave me the opportunity to see things from a different angle.

This huge willow had fallen many years ago and continues to grow in its prone position along the bank of the inlet. The fall seems to have caused the root to twist in a spiral and its rich texture is brought out by the filtered light of the sun low in the sky.
