The Famous……

…..Wigan Pier!!
Here at the Leeds/Liverpool Canal basin, where warehouses and mills were situated, the Winstanley Colliery Railway ran straight to the canal edge, and a specially designed ‘tipper’ lifted the coal wagons over to tip their full load directly into the waiting barges.
Taken on our early morning walk before the storm arrived ( but not, unfortunately, before the rain soaked us!)
