Audubon Exhibition

Today I visited the Audubon birds of America exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland. Audubon’s plates are enormous and were eye wateringly expensive even in the 1820s. Today there are only a few hundred in existence and they are amongst the most valuable books in existence. Audubon’s work divided opinion even when published and his life is a mass of contradictions. I found the exhibition interesting although it didn’t stir the soul like some of the other shows I’ve seen lately.
