King's Cottage

33 Kew Green - built in the 18th century by George 3rd King's Cottage became the retirement home of Archbishop Cosmo Laing who had held office during the abdication crisis.

The cottage retains interesting ironwork - the lantern above the door, the door knocker and rather curly boot scrapers on either side. The railings to the right support what I take to be a fire insurance plate. These came into vogue following the Great Fire of London and were issued in the tears following the Great Fire of London to give the fire brigade an indication of how much insurance a householder possessed., (See extra)
