White hellebores

Today's the day .................. to settle in for the duration

These white hellebores are at their best now in the garden - looking understated but very classy, with that simple lime green and white colour combination.

And they will look good for months to come, well into May when the summer perennials begin to take over.  And that's because the flowers have five petal-like sepals surrounding a ring of small, cup-like nectaries, which are actually petals modified to hold nectar. The sepals do not fall as petals would, but remain on the plant and contribute to the development of the seeds.

All in all, it really is a very pretty - as well as long-lasting - plant to have in your garden .................
