Power Out

A souvenir from my trip on the railway at the weekend; a World War II design urging people to cut down on gas and electricity usage to ease the burden on wartime coal production.

In other news (not entirely unrelated to the burden of coal miners), fair play to Manchesters United and City for refusing to hold a minute's silence for the passing of the Tinpot Queen yesterday. The Daily Mail did some predictable shrieking about this today, going so far as to produce a logic-defying article in which they proclaimed her as "the woman who saved football". Yes, with her ID card scheme that nearly drove every half-decent fan away from football grounds, her insistence on police putting public order ahead of safety (leading to the Bradford and Hillsborough disasters), and the subsequent cover-up conducted by her government over Hillsborough, she went about "saving" football in much the same way as she saved trade unions and Argentinian sailors.

So, with that in mind, we'll just be putting the lid on any more talk of a mandatory minute's silence at football grounds. Okay?
