Maria chapel

The parish of Eygelshoven has a lovely chapel in the Hopel. It was built by some miners from the Hopel, out of gratitude that the war years were finally over.

The well-known Limburg artist Eugène Laudy, student of Charles Eyck, was asked to make the statue of the Virgin Mary. He did this very skillfully.

On August 15, 1948, Mary Assumption, Pastor Franck blessed the new field chapel. The chapel was of course in white, like the houses in the White Hope! For many years only a dirt road led here. There is still a bench to rest and pray for a while. How many people would have been sitting here?
