From Bleaberry Fell

The SW wind was still strong today, but much less than yesterday, so we were able to pick up yesterday's plan and get up on to the low fells.

Starting from Great Wood car park, we headed out through the wood and then back on ourselves to the Walla Crag viewpoint we’d looked out from yesterday. The weather was continually changing, alternating between sun, graupel showers and hail, with a chill wind, but we seized a sunny interval to carry on up to Bleaberry Fell, at 590m, where we were grateful to have lunch in the shelter. On another clear moment we decided to continue to High Seat at 608m. Up there the wind was sometimes gusting upto about 40-45mph so we didn’t hang around. We took a slightly scrambly descent over Dodd and then down to Ashness Bridge.

All in all, bar the sometimes abrasive graupel showers, a much better day than expected with fabulous views over Dewentwater to Bassenthwaite and across to Skidaw and Blencathra. We could see past Catbells to the Western Fells too. Fabulous.
