brutal

architecturally speaking, the scottish parliament isn't strictly a work of brutalism. but all that concrete and general disregard for the surroundings makes it pretty brutal on the landscape (if handy for a blip). it's also a pretty brutal place to work, according to a friend of mine who is an ex-employee and now merely works ten-hour days with alternate weekends off.

brutal is also what the first night of the new system was at work. not as bad nor as chaotic as it could have been, but so many things just hadn't been thought about (or were ignored) and thus were either not done, done badly, or done only because someone said they'd do them just this once. it only gets busier and more deadline-heavy as the week goes on, culminating in the grand glory of friday night, when we'll be doing parts of three papers all to similar deadlines. if i'm still alive, i'll let you know how it goes...

EDIT: i forgot to mention, i backblipped yesterday. it's a rather nice shot actually, even if i do say so myself (and no whining about work for once ;-) )
