Grace Brothers Broadway

A Local Landmark

The twin buildings of the original Grace Brothers store on Broadway either side of Bay Street was once the thriving commercial and retail hub of Sydney.

In 1954 it was even visited by the Queen which highlights how significant the area was during that time.

Grace Brothers first came to Broadway 1904 but the buildings in their image weren’t completed until 1923.  The store closed in 1995.  In 1998 the western building was reopened for its current use as a mixed retail and cinema complex, while the Eastern side became first a hotel and currently student accommodation. Its facade is being refurbished and hopefully will soon match its twin once again.

These days the indoors is just another mall but the exterior and my life time memories remain.

Thanks Jen for hosting today's challenge.
