Divine

I’m in Pershore Abbey, as a volunteer steward for the art works we have here until the end of March. This huge triptych is DIVINE and the other #motherandchild by local artist Oliver Jones.
The blurb says they ‘resonate with the Abbey as a place of worship, but the modern take on religious imagery makes it more accessible to a younger generation. ‘

Apparently DIVINE references the image of Laocoon and his sons struggling with 2 snakes, an image regarded as an icon of human suffering. Very pertinent.

#motherandchild is composed as a renaissance altarpiece such as Madonna and Child by Giovanni Batista Salvi
