Landmark

This obelisk known as The Crowstone was sited just off Chalkwell shoreline in 1836/7 and marks the seaward limit of the River Thames under the City of London jurisdiction.  It replaced an earlier one from 1755 but there could have been various posts and markers on this site as far back as seven hundred years.
