Red-winged Blackbird

On Display! It's spring and I sat and watched half a dozen male Red-winged Blackbirds court a dozen or more females near this pond in an open space reserve. Lovely day and watching these guys display and show their stuff was really fun. The females hung out below the rushes as the males flew around, puffed up their wings and tail feathers, then upon answering their call, flew down to mate with the females. This happened numerous times per male and female as the day grew long. The females will make their nests below sight-line and lay the eggs probably in the next couple of weeks. Nature in action.

Enjoy! (Hug your honey - it's spring!)
