Long necked heron

This heron was having a good look at something when my mum and I walked past it this afternoon. We had seen it sitting patiently (extra) as we went out for a short walk along the Water of Leith and something clearly had caught its attention when we walked past again on our way back. We also spotted a goldeneye (extra), the first I think I've seen around here.

My mum was with me today because she had come over to lend her support as I had a hospital appointment this morning. In the end things are better than they might have been, though I will have another scan to come and more appointments. But I'm certainly feeling a little bit of relief this evening.
