Striding edge and Helvellyn

The first day of meteorological Spring. Woke up to clear skies, so set off to add to the Wainwright's. From Glenridding, walked over Birkhouse Moor and up to Striding Edge. Although we'd already climbed Helvellyn, (many times) - we thought a climb over Striding edge, over Helvellyn and down Swirrel Edge to Catstycam could be a good route. However, the further we walked along Striding Edge, the more we realised that the scramble at the end to the summit was so icy it required full crampons and ice axes - which we didn't have with us.

Frustrated, we dropped down to Red Tarn, and walked up Catstycam, giving us the two Wainwright's we'd set up to do.  Still had a fabulous day, and certainly made the right decision to by-pass the Helvellyn Summit.

Birkhouse Moor: 139/214
Catstycam: 140/214

74 to go!
