Great, Great Grandparents.

Please allow me to introduce you to Thomas Chiverton born 1853 in the village of Binsted, East Hampshire. Binsted was first mentioned as part of the Hundred of Netham at the time of the Domesday Survey in 1086. Before the Norman Conquest, the village was known as Binsted Popham and was owned by Egbert of Wessex. The village was a simple agricultural community.
Thomas’ wife was Henrietta Wakeling. Henrietta is born in 1855 Greatham, East Hampshire.
The Old Church of Greatham now in ruins was build in the Middle Ages circa 1282 and has a particular historical significance as it is contains the alabaster tomb of Dame Margery Caryll. The Dame was born in 1592 during the reign of Elizabeth I, and was the daughter of John Freeland, and at seventeen she was married to Sir Richard Caryll.

To my modern eyes, the photo shines with their love for each other as they sit on the beach in their best clothes. In today’s world they would be seen as overdressed.for a day on the beach
