"Football Russian Style"

This drawing dating from c. 1915 is one item on display at Weston-super-Mare's museum. Drawn in ink on paper by Alfred Leete (1882-1933), the display caption explains that the cartoon of a violent football game is "a satirical piece of wartime commentary, depicting the Russians as violent and chaotic". Stereotypes, of course, but it strikes a modern chord this week. (Even the Refereeski doesn't look too savoury a character!)

It's a very good museum - small, but well-lit and eclectic in its contents. We didn't have time (parking-time, that is) to spend long there, or try out the cafe there, but we shall definitely return to spend longer there another time.
