Community help Ukraine

Having read in the local newspaper about an appeal for donations to help the people in Ukraine I popped along to our local church to see if I could help.

An astonishing sight met my eyes. The pews were full of donations, everything from children shoes and cloths, to medical supplies.

It all started on Monday morning when local councillor Alisdair Tollemache (see extra) rang the local minister, Dan Harper, at 8.20 am to see if they could do something to help the refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine. (See video link).

Within 48 hours the church was full and now volunteers are boxing it up to be taken by lorries to Edinburgh where it will be driven to Poland.

It was an incredible moving occasion seeing such a spontaneous response by our local community to the tragic war in Ukraine. My Ukrainian friend has made it to Strasbourg where she is staying with friends. Her daughter is with her but her husband remains in Kyiv.
