EV

These are not yet common in our patch, I think the only one in the street. Everyone else seems to be chugging along on petrol or diesel so far.
I have questions.
Are the batteries sustainable; they seem to use up a lot of finite precious materials?
Is the huge surge of electricity demand sustainable from renewable sources?
Why are hydrogen powered cars not getting more attention? 
Anyway, an EV is not for me, short term.
