Out and About

We got to bed fairly late so breakfast was a slow affair but eventually we got out on the snowshoes. This is the back route up to the top of our nearest hill. It involves a few steep bits and some nice views. In this picture you can see Härnösand's ski slope and some wind turbines on the far horizon. The triangular white patch is the ice-covered sea near Älandsbro.
Dave and Jude both did really well, managing their first experience with snowshoes in an impressive manner.
The snow is changing with all this freeze-thaw weather and stepping off the track meant a deep sinking feeling! The snow is melting away from rocks and trees too.
Later in the day some of us took another walk while some snoozed. A delicious chick-pea curry and an evening of conversation in front of the fire completed the day.  So much fun to be together!
Changing the subject....   Seeing those wind turbines near the ski slope reminded me that when we arrived here in 1985 there was already a wind turbine on that hill. The electricity it produced was used for electrolysis and the hydrogen was used to fuel the researcher's SAAB car and to heat his house. Unfortunately there was little interest in those ideas and the experiment came to nought.  What a missed opportunity!
