A Loner?

This female shelduck has been on the lake at Trentham for a few years. She hangs around with the coots and the mallards but there's never been a male shelduck companion. She doesn't seem to be too concerned about that fact and is feisty soul. She always comes running when the bird food is being handed out.

It's been a bright sunny morning with much activity on the lake. Hormones are in full flow amongst the waterfowl!! Crocuses in full bloom with a few large hoverflies making the most of the early nectar.

We had our annual get together with an old friend this evening - Pancake Day! It's been a tradition for a few years but we missed 2020 due to the pandemic. And we did it virtually last year. So it was good to finally meet up in person this year.
