Reaching out

I got some things together to donate for Ukrainian refugees. I was turned away at the Polish food shop by a man who had just emerged from a van. ‘Were not taking anything this weekend,’ he said. ‘Anyway we don’t want sleeping bags.’ He was brusque to the point of rudeness. He didn’t even ask what I had in my carrier bag. (Two pairs of leather shoes not greatly used.) Did he know anywhere else that was taking things? ‘No. We’re absolutely full.’ If I thanked him, for what, I don’t know. I tried the Salvation Army. They were shut. Oxfam is getting a donation., after all they are working hard to help Ukrainian refugees.
