Forest bathing was essential for me today. The horror happening in Ukraine is impossible to ignore and impossible to accept. I needed to search out beauty and I keep thinking how fortunate we are to live where we do.
The extra is a photo of Renata and me from many years ago, taken in one of those photo booths that used to be popular. I logged into Facebook yesterday for the first time in ages, and the photo popped up as a memory. I downloaded it and sent it to Renata, Krista and Kalyn. G saw it on the laptop desktop, and he said that we had the world by the tail back then. Full of optimism that we could change the world and leave it a better place than we found it. Certain that we had chosen the profession that would allow us to make a difference. All our possessions and the three of us in a little car, heading north to start the adventure of making a happy, useful life together. We often talk about the historical events we've witnessed in our lives, the protests we've taken part in, the advocates we've been for people who couldn't advocate for themselves. We've achieved a lot as individuals and as a couple and a family, but the one thing that's a tremendous disappointment is that the world isn't a better place. It's so difficult to feel so helpless.   :-(
