Cornet

We went down to Emsworth this afternoon and it was very sunny but bitterly cold. Not that it stopped me from having a salted caramel ice cream ;)

There were hundreds of Brent geese around. This part of the Sussex/Hampshire coast is one of their main over-wintering locations, along with Rye in East Sussex and several places in East Anglia. The dark-bellied variety that nests in northern Russia and Siberia, that is. The ones that nest in Svalbard and Greenland have paler bellies and mostly spend the winter around North East England and Ireland.
