Erect crested Penguin

This cutie came in last night having been found on a beach in Kaikoura. It was suffering with the heat. These guys nest on the southern islands of Snares and Antipodes. After fledgling these youngsters make their way to the West coast of NZ for summer. This fellow took a wrong turn somewhere!!! We xrayed him today, and very happily found nothing wrong. We thought he had a bite wound , but just some broken feathers. Maybe a lucky escape. He is like a rotund little puppy. ( See extra) So gorgeous. We will keep him a short while, then send him in his continuing way.
