World War Two Defences

This strange conglomeration of concrete blocks were part of our shore defences during World War II in case enemy aircraft should land on the beaches below. However, given how steep the sandy cliff is down to the beach I can't imagine how enemy armour could easily surmount it. Today as we watch images of the blockades going up around Kyif it has a certain poignancy and reminder of the horror of war. No amount of sunny woodland environment can prettify the need for such defences.
