Victorian Alice

Yesterday, being International Women's Day, Congleton celebrated the unveiling of a statue of Elizabeth Wolstenholme Elmy who Emmeline Pankhurst described as 'the brains of the suffragist movement'.   There was a big parade through the town in which children from Alice's school dressed up in period costume and took part.
