After spending much of a rather cool and overcast weekend writing up the results of a vegetation survey at Ring Haw, I decided to go for a walk round the site, to refresh my memory. By the time I was on the return journey the sun was setting and the Highland cows, who are doing such a good job of grazing the flower-rich grasslands were mere shadows in the grass. I love cattle, and this gentle group of ladies are particularly special. Despite their fearsome horns, they are quiet and placid, and it was a pleasure to spend some time with them - if only humans were more like cows...
