Whale Tail

I worked in that pub way back in my 20s before they wrecked it by modernising it. They had to serve drinks out of plastic for a while because the locals smashed all the glasses on opening night in protest. It used to have a grand wooden staircase inside and a huge indoor aviary. Now (lots of years later) it looks like a very ordinary daggy old pub inside. I believe there is a club called "Friends of the old Crown Hotel" or something like but haven't looked into it.Bet they wish they'd kept its beautiful old character. Just recently an application to add up to 9 stories to it was fortunately rejected (I think and hope).
