What you give is what you get

Off to dermatologist this morning to remove a couple of suspicious things on my leg. Interesting discussion during op with doctor about work-life balance and meaning of life. I said to him, as I usually do to anybody who will listen, how much I wish my working life was more like his and had a purpose other than making more and more money for the bank.
Also talked about L's brother-in-law - thanks for your kind comments yesterday. The wonderful Doctor's philosophy on life is: when you die, all that is left is what you have given to others, anything else that you might have accumulated does not really count that much - something lost in translation maybe, but I like the sentiment.

Pic of the artificial island in Rolle
Here's some more info, copied from local tourist site:
The Island “de La Harpe” was created in 1838. A 13-meters obelisk was erected on the island in honour of a political leader, named Frédéric César de La Harpe. At night, sophisticated lights on the trees provide the island with a unique and mysterious atmosphere.
Back in 1835, a group of local merchants decided to create an island in order to protect the harbour situated on the west side, where the wood, which was cut in the Jura, used to be embarked on ships and carried to Geneva.

In 1838, the politician Frédéric César de la Harpe’s died and the artificial island was given his name. After a public vote, a committee decided to erect an obelisk in his honour, designed by Veyrassat, an architect from Lausanne. The medals on the monument were sculpted by Pradier.
