Shakespeare reimagined

My daughter and I visited Stratford-upon-Avon yesterday for a matinée performance at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre of Much Ado About Nothing. It was a brilliantly reimagined interpretation with a largely Black cast - many of whom were making their debut performance after drama school - spectacular costumes and a futuristic set. The music was very contemporary and the parties of school children in the upper tiers of the theatre were clearly loving it. It wasn't done in "modern language", Shakespeare's dialogue remained intact, but the production certainly made it accessible, especially to the younger members of the audience for whom this may have been their first experience of seeing Shakespeare performed. The actress playing Beatrice, Anika Henry, was excellent and certainly one to watch.
