Anne's Daily Encounters

The Mirror

The big bowl of the Rotterdam museum mirroring the city's skyline.

This is the museum Booymans van Beuningen new depot where its art is kept and can be seen by visitors. The museum itself is closed for reconstruction, what will last many years. It's art storage will be here for ever and can be seen by all.

This depot is mainly referred to as 'De pot', the jar in English, by the people of Rotterdam and also as 'Spiegelei'. What is a Fried Egg in translation, but if translated by a Dutchman would be called 'Mirrored Egg'.

Anyway, being in that city I had to capture its mirrored skyline in this large mirror what is 40 meters high. Its reflecting facade, consists of 6,609 m2 of glass divided over 1,664 panels; what ensures that the building visually blends into its surroundings each day – depending on weather conditions – as such the depot looks like in a living painting.

Thank you all lots for your reactions and compliments on Sweetheart's portrait yesterday... he agrees with you all!
