Granite Lion

Had a midweek mini break with my mum in her home town of Aberdeen. Went to the art gallery to see Zandra Rhodes - it got a bit exciting when the fire alarm went off and we all had to evacuate! This granite lion is positioned nearby and is quite impressive. Looked up some info on it now I’m safely back home:

The rugged granite lion was designed by an Aberdeen sculptor, William Macmillan RA (1877-1927) and the work carried out by James Philip, using silver-grey granite from Kemnay. This is lighter in colour than the granite quarried from Rubislaw.

The sculpture was unveiled on 29th September 1925 when King George V opened the new Cowdray Hall and Art Museum.
