One day
George went looking
For a dragon
On which to build a legend
And maybe some fame
As a saint
Or a poet
Instead he found
An ant
Going about it’s business
Disinterested it seemed
In saints
Or poets
With their airy dreams
Of fame and grandeur
And suddenly George saw
A different and shadowy dragon
With which to do battle
One among many
Voracious and hungry beasts
Roaring in the cave within
The dark reaches of his own
Heart
George clutched his chest
Bowed
And thanked the ant
Who had shown him
His darkened soul
Then turned
And returned
Not a poet
Nor a saint
But a man
Simply
Himself
