Yorkshire Post Farm of the Week!

Lovely photos of our friends in the Yorkshire Post today.

We were so pleased to see Martin on the front page of Country Week today.
Very well deserved recognition for his farm and Farm Shop.

As a youngster he used to help his father, Thomas Hare, at his butcher stall in Rawson Market Bradford.
When he left school he started a milk round.( Used to deliver to us.)
Then people started buying milk from supermarkets, and he went into farming, making hay for horse riding schools.
Summers were getting worse, and so he turned to cows. Taking them to market, but prices weren't good, and so he decided to open a shop, selling his own beef.
Originally it was a mobile caravan, but now a smart stone building, with a
10.5 metre meat counter.
He now sells his own beef, lamb, hens, and eggs. ( The pork comes from Wharfedale Farmers' Auction Mart in Otley )

Martin takes great pride in his hardy Dexter cattle.
Their meat doesn't come cheap, but has a superior taste as they take 12 months longer to fatten up because they are so small. see here

It is a very family-friendly environment, and there are also Donkeys,( which I have blipped a few times,)
Two tiny pigmy goats named Will and Kate, and two alpacas named Ant and Dec.

Their grandson Darwin ( seen in the photo with Martin, and his wife Arlene) has been presented with his own three sheep.
May be he will continue the tradition. Let's hope so.
