Mrs Ottawacker had also taken off this week - about time too, she had been swamped at work and needed a break. 

Unfortunately for her, she had to spend today in A&E. Nothing seriously wrong, but she had noticed swelling on her right calf and called the doctor for an appointment. He told her to get to emergency to get it checked out. Brilliant - such is the parlous state of Ontario's health system.

She waited a good six hours - had an x-ray and ultrasound - and they eliminated the possibility of it being a clot. They suspect it is caused by arthritis in her knee. So there was good news and bad news. The good news was that it is not a clot; the bad news is that they probably can't do anything about it. Brilliant.
