Old Winch

This is the best of the old winches in the village.  When this was a herring fishing area, there were would have been boat winches all along the shore.
I think there were half a dozen or so still about when we came here, 2009, but they are mostly just rusty tangles of metal now. 

A big JCB type machine came and shifted it last weekend. The winch stood at the top of an old slipway and it looks as if there are plans to launch a boat from there and it was in the way. Seems a shame to see it just cast aside. It's been a useful beast in its time, I'm sure.
