What do you do with the ashes of your loved one?

Well, artist Derek Collins has come up with a novel idea: he embeds them in a work of art dedicated to the memory of the loved one.

And the commissions are rolling in.

He says: "So far I have done 11 people, two dogs and a cat. I am doing another dog today."

Derek, who lives in Dunblane, work is highly textured. So instead of using sand or other fillers he replaces this with ashes and pours resin on top.

Derek will be among the artists taking part in June in Forth Valley Open Studios.
