Dead Man’s Folly

The birdwatcher was on Dartmoor. The day was too good to waste so I walked to Greenway Mansion ( National Trust), Agatha Christie’s holiday home. It is a lovely walk, through Galmpton village, skirting the river Dart at the creek, across the fields, and through the woods to the  house and gardens. It was very quiet. I enjoy looking in the second hand bookshop which is watched over by Hercule Poirot himself. Disconcerting. Dead Man’s Folly is a novel inspired by Greenway and is set there, though the house is called Nasse  House. A murder occurs in the boat house, and Hercule Poirot solves the mystery using his little grey cells. The boat house is usually open to visitors but today it wasn’t.
